Brian
Grimm
was born in 1968 in the small town of Bastrop, Texas. His
talent was discovered at an early age and the rural farm life
was rich with inspiration. After achieving an art degree in
1992, Brian worked as a graphic designer in Austin.
Brian’s love is the rugged western landscape and its
wildlife. Outdoor studies, en plein air, are essential
in helping to recreate natural lighting and atmosphere.
Painting in oil, prepared masonite allows a firm surface for
full expression. Confident, painterly brushwork is a hallmark.
“God’s creation and a simpler way of life is my inspiration.”
Noted influences on Brian’s work include many artists, but the
works of painter Ken Carlson influenced Brian early, and he
credits Ken for his patient critiques thru the years.
Brian lives with his wife and two sons in Fredericksburg,
Texas. Each summer he takes time to teach art scholarship
students at the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville, Texas. In
2004, his work was selected for the cover of the August 2004
issue of The International Texas Longhorn Association’s
magazine, Longhorn Drover, only the second artist to receive
such honor. He was commissioned in February 2005 by the
National Cattleman’s Beef Association to create their
commemorative print of the year. Award winning, he participates
in invitational shows throughout the U.S.
