Paul Strisik was
born in Brooklyn, NY. Although he was always interested in art,
Strisik didn't start painting seriously until after his service in the
Navy. He discovered painting and
began his studies at the Art Students League, New York. There,
Strisik studied under Frank Vincent Dumond, where he
learned a theory that would sculpt his entire view on painting: the theory of cause and effect.
Paul
Strisik moved to Rockport, Massachusetts in the early 1950's and resided
there with his wife
Nancy until his death in July, 1998. His works of the
southwest date back to the 1960's, and in the mid-1980's he purchased a
home in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he spent 4-5 months a year.
Skilled in both oil and watercolor, Strisik often
sketched his subjects in the outdoors and later painted
them in his studio. He was a member of several prestigious
organizations, including the National Academy of Design, National
Academy of Western Art, American Watercolor Society, the Copley Society
of Boston, and
many others. He won over 185 awards, including 16 gold medals. As well as painting, Strisik wrote two
books entitled "The Art of Landscape Painting"
and "Capturing Color and Light". |
