W.W. Caffyn, RA (1845-1897)
Walter was a skilled painter who specialized in painting harvest scenes and river view landscapes. He exhibited his paintings at The Royal Society of British Artists, The Royal Society of British Artists and Royal Institute of Oil Painters until 1867.
He generally painted views of local areas in Surrey and Sussex, but also made visits to Yorkshire to paint the moors. He collaborated with painter H. L. Rolfe to paint the landscapes for Rolfes’ angling figures.
Walter married Eliza and they had four children: Douglas Ethelstone, Edith Mary, Ella and Nellie Frances. The 1881 English census shows them living in Dorking with Walter listed as a landscape painter.
